Exhibition of the quarter: Yoko Choi's Explorations
Exhibition period: 28/4/2017 - 27/6/2017
Explorations showcases 29 of Yoko Choi’s recent artworks that reflect a period of awakening and growth in her life.
This contemporary ink exhibition explores the notion of order and change, which constantly shapes and modifies our world. Born in Hong Kong, Yoko has always had a keen awareness of the relationship between nature and the man-made world. With an approach that is visual yet intuitive, the artist maps the process of change by layering thousands of repetitive strokes using marker on Chinese rice paper, allowing her hands and eyes to succumb to the subconscious, while remaining fully mindful in the process.
The resulting artworks feature impressive compositions evoking urbanscapes, mountains, oceans and imaginative spaces, revealing that between the known and the unknown, the conscious and subconscious, lie unlimited possibilities.
