UOB Art Space uniquely @ REGAL in Hong Kong

United Overseas Bank Hong Kong (UOB Hong Kong) joins hands with Regal Hotels International (Regal Hotels) to launch the “UOB Art Space uniquely @ REGAL” at Regal Airport Hotel, Hong Kong as part of their partnership to promote art in the community.

 

UOB and Regal Hotels embrace a shared vision to promote and reinforce company mission, core values and brand through appreciation of art. In 2015, UOB Hong Kong established the UOB Art Academy with an aim to make art more accessible to the community, nurture local young artists and promote cross-cultural dialogues through monthly art outreach programmes, quarterly art exhibitions and annual art competitions. In 2016, UOB collaborated with Regal Hotels to launch the UOB Art Space uniquely @ REGAL to showcase the artworks produced by local and Asian artistic talents on quarterly basis.

 

The Art Space will showcase the works from UOB Art Collection which contains more than 2,000 pieces of art on a quarterly basis, selected art pieces and merchandises from Hong Kong designers are for sale.

Over 10 different newspapers are published daily in Hong Kong. The artist picks some of them as the founcation for each of his drawings, in hopes of recreating the uniqueness of Hong Kong and sharing these with the audience to be appreciated, finding fulfilment and joy in art.

 

In 2017, Hong Kong artist Water Poon is specially invited to use his paintbrush to depict the life scenery of Hong Kong and Singapore for a solo exhibition, in order to let more people appreciate his unique style, and to infuse life with more vibrancy as well as hope and happiness, to convey a message that there is no divide between arts and culture which bring enjoyment to all of us...

 

The newspapers of Singapore and Hong Kong were used by Water Poon for drawing, applying the environmentally-friendly concept, feeling the cultural values embedded within the original papers together with the melding of the scenery being drawn, creating another form of in-depth arts, levitating the cultural exchanges of the two places...

About the Artist

Water Poon is an artist, photographer, designer and film director. He had been a photo journalist of various newspapers in different countries, such as, Express Post, Singtao Daily, Hong Kong Economic Journal in Hong Kong, Singtao Daily (Canada), magazine Global Views Monthly (Taiwan), and Metro Daily (Hong Kong).

Over the years, Poon has published various photo albums, art books, and travel notes. His works have been exhibited in various places.  

  • Multi-medium cross application of ink, watercolour, acrylic.
  • Involving in design, drawing, photography, film directing, writing, etc.
  • Filming world heritage sites across Silk Road, Yellow River, Grand Canal, Dunhuang, Tibet, Yunnan, Xishuangbanna, Huangshan , Wudang Mountain, Emeishan, Kenya of Africa, Ethiopia, Bangladesh, America, Canada, UK, Japan, Bhutan, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Macau and Hong Kong.
  • Making movies and documentaries (Chinese folklore) (exhibit of Iran at the Walled City).
  • Organising and sketching the exhibition of 25 Caves of Dunhuang Yulin presented in Vancouver and Hong Kong.
  • Founded "Water Style Painting Photography School" to promote arts and culture.
  • Drawings and photographic works exhibited worldwide.
  • Edited, designed and published over 50 photographic collections and travel journals.
  • Hong Kong Top Ten Youth Outstanding Award, Hong Kong Artists' Guild Limited Debut Photography Contest, Artist Award of the China Shanghai, Martell 2nd Contest, Arts Professor of the Hong Kong Nengren College, Visiting Professor of Design at Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong Baptist University Visiting Professor of Arts, Curator of the China Nanshan Temple, Arts Museum, and Design Awards of the Hong Kong Arts Festival.
  • Commendation Awards for the contributions in arts presented by The Honorable Jason Kenney, PC, MP. Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism on behalf of The Right Honourable Stephen Harper Prime Minister of Canada in 2013.
